Taking 12 credits/semester sometimes means that I don't have as much time for blogging as I'd like, but I thought I should post my brooder pics. Of course, the girls are outside in their new house now, so I'll have to post those pictures soon (after the semester is over).
They are really simple, made of a large rubbermaid bin (4 foot long x 1.5 ft wide), two screws and a wooden "perch" that - a 1 x something piece of wood i found at Ace Hardware.
I drilled holes in the sides of the bin before I screwed the wooden perch in. I supported the perch with small wood "stubs" on the outside of the bin, so the plastic itself doesn't have to support the screw, or their weight. I covered the whole thing over with a window screen. The whole thing cost me about $12.

Running a little behind
This is the girls, after a sudden growth spurt, when they were only spending their nights indoors in the brooder, and spending their days happily careening around in the fenced in run.

They are so adorable.....I think of you every time I break open an egg here...the shell is hard, the yolk is orange, just like the farm eggs we drove to get. I get them at the market from the professore di uove, heehee. I am also planning to smuggle Italian seeds home in August. There are only 2 people I know who will really appreciate them, and you are 1 of them.
