November is here and its getting chilly out. It's actually 48 degrees outside right now! This might not seems so bad to some of you in colder regions, but here in Florida, that's cold.
My little raised bed is doing well - I had to pull out all the turnips because they were hosting buggers that were eating them and my mizuna. They weren't doing too well anyways - more leaf than root, so I'm going to use them for greens tonight. They're pretty tender so they should be good. Now, to figure out what it is people down here actually do with Turnip greens...the lady at the market kind of looked at me askance when i asked, so i'm going to have to find someone else who can help me. Swiss chard is growing, slowly, but a lovely red and green.
AND I've misplaced my collard greens. I know that somewhere in that little garden box, I've planted collard greens, lettuce and broccoli, but I forgot to label them, and I can't tell which is which. Luckily I labeled the spinach, and fortunately, eating broccoli greens won't kill me (if i get it wrong).
Hubby and I have decided to get chickens in the spring! This winter, we're fencing in the yard (6 foot privacy fence), and in February, we're going to order three chicks. He's pretty much left it up to me, but I've decided that we should cap our chicken population off at 6, so I think three at a time should do. No rooster, though - we want eggs, but we can't afford to have too many chickens running around, multiplying. So, for those of you who knew me when I was ultra-city girl fashion designer, I have finally lost it. :)
